Looking for a reason to get out of the house this month? The Gold Coast has no shortage of things to do for seniors, from creekside walks and wildlife encounters to hinterland villages, markets and theatre.
The hard part is usually getting there. Parking, long walks from the car park and driving unfamiliar roads can turn a good day out into a tiring one. That is why many retirement villages, Probus groups and seniors clubs plan their outings around a coach, so everyone travels together and nobody has to drive.
Currumbin Valley Bus and Coach is a family-owned Gold Coast business, running since 2006. Below are some of our favourite activities for seniors on the Gold Coast, plus how our seniors day tours work if you would rather leave the planning to us.
Things to do for seniors on the Gold Coast
These outings suit a relaxed pace and work well for a group. Most are within an hour of the southern Gold Coast.
Get up close to wildlife at Currumbin
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a local favourite, with koalas, kangaroos and native birds in a leafy setting. Groups can take it at their own pace, with plenty of places to sit and rest along the way.
Enjoy the coast at Burleigh Heads
The walking track around the Burleigh headland in Burleigh Head National Park offers some of the best ocean views on the coast. Afterwards, the cafés along the Burleigh beachfront make an easy stop for lunch or a coffee.
Slow down in a garden or parkland
The Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens at Benowa and the Broadwater Parklands at Southport are both open, green spaces for a gentle stroll, a picnic or simply watching the world go by.
Catch a show or an exhibition
HOTA, Home of the Arts at Surfers Paradise, hosts theatre, music and gallery exhibitions throughout the year. Just over the border, the Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre at Murwillumbah pairs well with a drive through the Tweed Valley.
Browse the local markets
Markets are a social day out with something for everyone. Carrara Markets and Miami Marketta are two well-known options, and many suburbs run smaller craft and farmers markets on weekends.
Head up to the hinterland
A day in the hinterland is a change of scenery without a long trip. Tamborine Mountain’s Gallery Walk has galleries, gift shops and cafés, and Springbrook National Park is known for its lookouts and the Natural Bridge. These are winding mountain roads, so many groups prefer to let a coach captain do the driving.
Join in Queensland Seniors Month
October is Queensland Seniors Month, celebrated from 1 to 31 October with events across the state. On the Gold Coast, the free Seniors Community Connect Day runs at Currumbin RSL on Friday 30 October 2026 from 10am, bringing together more than 30 local clubs, activity groups and services. Registration is required. The Currumbin Valley Bus & Coach team will be there, come and say hello!
Coach tours for seniors: let someone else do the driving
If you would rather sit back and enjoy the view, a coach day trip takes care of the logistics. There are two ways to travel with us.
Join our monthly seniors day tours
Currumbin Valley Bus and Coach runs a monthly senior day tour program, with a different destination each month. It is a simple way to meet like-minded people, catch up with friends or simply get out of the house for the day. A typical day includes morning tea, a place to visit and a lunch stop, and we also run an extended tour each year.
Every day tour includes:
- Pick-up and drop-off points to suit the group
- Commentary from our experienced Coach Captains
- Morning tea provided (tea, coffee and cake)
- Comfortable coaches with large windows for good viewing
- Handrails and a “kneel system” that lowers the coach to make getting on and off easier
- A toilet on board (on our 48-passenger coach only)
You can see what is coming up on our coach tours for seniors page and in our tour packages. Each tour has a fitness rating, so you can check how much walking is involved before you book.
Plan a private tour for your group
For retirement villages, seniors clubs, Probus groups, community groups and aged care organisations, we can plan a tour around your group. Our Tour Manager works with you on the itinerary, can help book lunch and venues, and is happy to meet with your committee to build a program that suits your group’s pace, interests, accessibility needs and budget. Find out more about group travel.
All of our vehicles are fitted with seat belts, and our drivers are authorised by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
Tips for planning a seniors group outing
A little planning makes the day comfortable for everyone. Here is what we suggest to the clubs and villages we travel with.
- Ask about mobility needs early. Let us know about walkers, wheelchairs or anyone who needs extra help boarding, so we can match the right coach to your group.
- Choose venues with easy access. Look for flat paths, nearby seating and accessible toilets, and keep walking distances short.
- Build in rest and toilet stops. On longer trips, plan a comfortable break every couple of hours. Only our 48-passenger coach has a toilet on board.
- Book lunch ahead. Pre-booking a group table saves waiting, and our Tour Manager can help arrange it.
- Pick the right size coach. Our fleet ranges from 21-seat buses to larger coaches, so a small social club and a whole retirement village can both travel together.
- Confirm numbers the week before. We contact you a week before your trip to confirm passenger numbers and timings, so there are no surprises on the day.
When you are ready, get a quote and we will confirm your booking and place it in our schedule. For more ideas, see our guide to group activities on the Gold Coast.
